governing by the polls

Wasn't Steve very insistent that he would not govern by the polls?!? (say as you do, do as you say...)

The Harper government has scrapped addressing climate change because some new polls suggest that transit is the way to go. Wow. Talk about true leadership Mr. Harper.

First you tell the world that Canada is abandoning our international commitments to Kyoto and now the Harper government is taking climate change right off the radar because some political polls suggests that it is not a vote grabber.

Politics is politics, but remember that while in government you actually have to do some leading and governing. Here's something you don't need a poll to tell you: Climate change is a priority.

I don't know if it is so much governing by some recent poll rather than realizing that people want to see results. Kyoto allows for the lowering of noxious gasses on a pig farm in Bolivia and the purchase of credit for that reduction by a Hamilton smelter. The smog stays the same in Hamilton. I would rather see a program that forces a reduction of smog in Canada.

Whatever your views on the method of reducing the climate change problems this constant delay among the political parties (especially the Conservatives) is just delaying doing "anything".

Some one has to get this started before it's too late.

About Harper not paying attention to polls - BS. I've received two questionnairs in the last month from our local Cons. MP (formerly:
Alliance member) one asking about our views on the mission in Afghanistan and the second about the $500 towards sports for families. Pardon me, but wasn't the $500 towards sports a campaign promise? And, why would they be asking now about the views on this campaign promise?

Harper is constantly polling. He did this same thing in my area just prior to the last election.

I forgot to add (anonymous 11:55) that Scott Brison has just lost my vote with his attack on Michael Ignatieff. Dirty and pathetic. He's acting like a conservative candidate still.

Too bad, I was looking in his direction. Not any more.

It's also backfired on his because it reminded people of his "serious" gaffes - income trust emails, etc.

I was undecided before but now Brison has my vote!

The other candidates just don't have what it takes to lead the party or the ideas...

I have been very turned off of Ignatieff and his campaign. He isn't dedicated to the party or the future of the party. So, no thank you.
